The week after we returned from our first official family vacation, the nugget picked up and brought home "Hand Foot and Mouth". It's a lovely virus that starts with a sore throat, then when that's good and raw, a fever makes an appearance, followed by painful ulcers on both the hands and feet. In 'rare' cases, it spreads the actual arms and legs...which is what happened to the littlest member of the family. I may have a hard time convincing him of the actual rarity of events due to both his age and the fact that he got it. I've always thought the concept of 'rare' hard to stomach if you have whatever is being sold as 'rare'.
About a week into the virus running its course, both of us parents managed to get it. You know, right about the time we think we might be in the clear and had escaped what looks like a truly dreadful experience. Lots of Children's Tylenol, lots of Children's Advil...not a lot of sleep for anyone.
First thought when I looked at my hands: Human Snickerdoodle. Except the spots aren't tasty bits in a delicious cookie...they're little ulcers of fucking pain.
